Six years after its launch, Malaysia's national car is finally being upgraded. The upcoming Proton Saga facelift has been seen a few times in Malaysia. So there is a lot of information about what's new in the car. The only thing missing was the official launch date, not now.
The 2022 Proton Saga (codenamed MC2) for the Malaysian market will launch tomorrow, May 12, according to the company's official press release.
A new change
Everyone knows a new saga is coming, but the real surprise is a new species. The 2022 Proton Saga range will have four variants: three older, 1.3-liter standard MT, 1.3-liter standard -AT, 1.3 liter Premium AT variants and a new range to outperform the 1.3 liter Premium SAT variant.

The same old powertrain
The mechanical characteristics of the saga do not change. Like the current model, the four variants of the new model will have a 1.3-liter four-cylinder natural spiral engine. The engine delivers 93 hp at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
In terms of transmission, Hyundai's 4-speed automatic will replace the CVT for the top-end variant, while the 5-speed manual remains the same for the standard variant.
Slight external changes
The look of the Proton Saga 2022 is more or less the same as the current model. It has a rounded front with new circular Proton logos, new body cuts and side mirrors, all covered in black.
All rear elements look the same as on the current model. The high-quality new 15-inch light-alloy wheels in multi-spoke design and the new premium S variants are the external features of the facelift model.
Feature upgrades
The infotainment screen looks similar but has an updated operating system. It has more icons, colors and notifications. In addition, there are a number of new features that are limited to the new Premium S variant.
